Although they are exceedingly popular, blogs are still not completely accepted as valuable platforms by all members of the business world. While they do offer great information pertaining to individual opinions and have become the top resource for product reviews, the question of whether or not a blog is a satisfactory resource for news, professional opinions, and other more "official" business is up for debate. No matter what side of that fence you stand on, there is no denying that blogs can be powerful lead generation tools.

How can blogs generate leads?

Great question! First and foremost, they attract readers. These readers are, presumably, interested in the topics that are discussed on the blog and want to know more about the subjects that are considered. In this way, blogs can target demographics without having to go after them; instead of putting information "out there" for Internet users to find, blogs draw them into a central location. But how? That's another great question. Using a blog to generate leads is something that requires a bit of finesse. There are several different things that must take place in order for someone to act on a blog post and generate a lead for your organization.

Here are a few of those things:

1. The blog must look professional. Whether you have it professionally developed or use a clean-cut, polished template, it should not look like an amateur endeavor.

2. The content must be compelling, engaging, and entertaining. The goal is to get people to read the content and act on it. Which brings us to number three...

3. Every post needs to have some sort of call to action. This is the part of the post that really convinces readers to click on your offer and create a lead.

4. Search engine optimization and other useful tools should be employed. Consider using keywords to attract search engines to your post.

5. The blog must be visible. Use social websites, like StumbleUpon, Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook, to promote the site and the offers it contains.

Using a blog to create leads is a great way to not only improve business, but establish a more personal connection with your target demographic. Unlike traditional websites, blogs allow for a larger degree of interaction with readers and, when done correctly, can build a rapport between you and your target demographic. With the right mixture of personality and information, your blogs may draw readers in and create the leads your organization needs to thrive!
